TAPS-8 Real-Time Biological Data
Biophysical Oceanographic Mooring:   Zooplankton Abundance

  • The EcoFOCI team developed a mooring system for acoustic zooplankton monitoring using a TAPS-8 (Tracor Acoustic Profiling System).
  • Summer deployment on surface mooring M2 in the southeast Bering Sea incorporates near-real-time data transmission using iridium satellite modem.
  • Data (see below), including temperature, salinity, pressure and fluorometer, are sent every two hours in Summer months from the mooring to our laboratory.
  • TAPS-8 was developed from TAPS-6 (D.V.Holliday and D.Doan, Tracor, Inc.)
